When Does the Hot Air Balloon Flight Start?

The balloon flight, which normally commences at pre-dawn, when the breeze on the plains is still cold, evokes a feeling that is never easy to describe to another person who was not present.  One simply needs to experience it to be able to appreciate it effectively.

Tourists are normally picked up from their lodges just before sunrise – around  6 am in most case.  However, if your lodge or safari camp is farther away from the balloon launching site, your might be picked up as early as 5 am. How High Does the Balloon Fly Over Masai Mara Game Reserve?

The balloon is flown to an attitude of up to 1000 feet for a unique and spectacular panoramic view of the Mara plains below.  Then it glides to a lower attitude at a-tree-top or even grass-top level for a closer view of the rich wildlife, flora and fauna below.  Spontaneity also comes to play during the trip as the exact direction and duration of the flight depends on the wind and the prevailing weather conditions of the day.  Most of the time, the trip would last at least an hour.

Booking Balloon Safari in Mara.  How Much Does it Cost?

Most safari lodges  and camps in Masai Mara (not all) would have a reservation desk for balloon safari companies.  From those desks,  you can book your balloon flight. However if your travel dates fall within the peak safari season, it is extremely advisable to pre-book your seat. Pre-booking your seat would ensure you do not miss a seat. For example, during the migration period, the seats sell like hot cake (excuse the cliche).    The cost of Hot air balloon in Masai Mara varies according the the season of travel. The peak safari travel season, between July and October is also the most expensive season, with prices for the seats on the balloon basket going as high as US$485 per adult (2018 rates).
