Day 1: Arrival Nairobi
Arrival at JKIA airport in Nairobi, meet greet and transfer to Silver Springs Hotel for dinner and overnight. If you arrive early the metropolitan city offers several places of interest. You may visit one of the local museums, take a city tour, go for lunch in one of the numerous excellent restaurants or just relax at the hotels swimming pool.
Day 2: Nairobi – Lake Nakuru – Lake Bogoria
It is essential to start early as this will be a long day with plenty of expiriences. After breakfast you will drive west of Nairobi at 7.00 am to the Great Rift Valley. Lunch will at the Nakuru National Park where you will also have a game drive. Lake Nakuru is renown for its Flamingo population. At the park you will have the unique opportunity of seeing the almost extinct Rhino, and, may be, Lions and Leopards. The next destination will be Lake Bogoria, another of the Rift Valley lakes famous for its abundant birdlife and hot springs. An evening game drive and a swim in the hotels hot water pool will crown the day.
Day 3: Lake Bogoria – Mt Elgon
After an optional early morning gamedrive, continue with your Rift Valley tour with lunch on the way. You proceed up and down the Tugen Hills in the Kerio Valley before you climb the Elgeyo escarpment which is arguably the most scenic part of the Great Rift Valley. Diner and overnight will be at the Mt. Elgon Bandas near the Elgon parkgate.
Day 4: Day in Mt Elgon
An early start (7.00am) will allow adequate time for game drives within Mt. Elgon Natonal Park in a 4X4 vehicle. Here there is the possibility to see elephants, buffalos, and antelopes among other types of game. Lunch will be at Kitum, one of the famous caves where elephants and buffalos pay visits for a mineral lick. The afternoons game drives will continue to higher altitudes till 3000m where you will rest for the evening in a fly camp at the road head.
Day 5: Hike to Koiboboss
Today your hike starts with a 4 hours walk, accompanied by Kenya Wildlife Service escorts, leading to the Koitoboss, the highest peak on the Kenyan side before crossing the caldera over to Uganda. At the border you will be received by armed Ugandan Wildlife Authority rangers who will accompany you down the Ugandan trail. Diner and overnight will be in a fly camp at the Mude caves (3500m).
Day 6: Peak
This is the day of Summit challenge with the day's trek to Wagagai (4321m), the peak of Mt. Elgon. You will walk along the rim of one of the world's largest calderas as you approach the summit. Here are several of small lakes left behind by glaciers of the last ice age. You will return to your Mude caves camp for dinner and a well deserved overnight.
Day 7: Descend to Mbale
Your descend will take you through the scenic montane forest and mixed bamboo with a lunch on the way. The heath and moorland gives way to forest at 3000m followed by small scale farmlands. On your way you will meet troops of black and white colobus as well as the blue monkeys and many varied bird species. At Bumasola (1770m) at about 2.00 pm you will bid the crew goodbye. Your driver will be waiting and transfer you to Mbale. Dinner and overnight will be at the Sun rise Inn.
Day 8: Drive to Jinja
Your day's first destination will be Jinja, Uganda's second largest city and the country's industrial centre. The town also hosts the Hydro Electric Power station that serves not only the county's population but Uganda's international neighbors as well. A visit to the source of Victoria Nile and the Bujagali Falls makes your day. After lunch, continue to Kampala, Uganda's capital city, or your next destination.
