5 Days Mount Meru Climbing Trek
Routing: Arusha - Momella Hut - Maria Kamba Hut - Saddle Hut - Descend
Day 1: Arrival Arusha
Transfer from Nairobi or from Kilimanjaro Airport. Arrival Arusha for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Trek Momella to Maria Kamba Hut
After breakfast start from Arusha at 8.00am and driving to the Momella gate where you meet your guide and crew. Your climb starts at around 10:00 a.m and leads through the natural forest up to the moorland where you will have an overnight at the Maria Kamba hut. On your way you will encounter Giraffes, Zebras and Buffaloes. The walk takes 3- 4 hours with a cold lunch on the way.
Day 3: Trek Maria Kamba Hut to Saddle Hut
Today's hike takes you through the moorland to the Saddle Hut at 3566m. You can use the afternoon for a 2 hour ascend of the little Mt. Meru (3820m) where you get a nice view over the Momella lakes and towards the main summit rewards your efforts.
Day 4: Final Ascend – Descend to Saddle Hut to Maria Kamba Hut
After a short night which ends at 2.00 am, the final ascend of Mt. Meru summit which is 4556m starts. At about 6.00 am from the summit you can enjoy a magnificent view of the snow capped Mt. Kilimanjaro peaks and the vast plains hosting the Arusha National Park. You then descend to Saddle Hut for late lunch before proceeding to Maria Kamba hut for overnight.
Day 5: Maria Kamba to Momella to Arusha
Return to Momella gate. Your walk ends at the former Hardy Krueger Farm, now Momella Lodge, where you will have lunch before you drive to Arusha for dinner and overnight at the Impala Hotel.
