Samburu National Reserve is located at about 344 kilometres north of Nairobi. The reserve is in the hot and arid fringes of the vast northern region of Kenya. It is within the lands of the colourful Samburu people, close relatives of the Maasai. Samburu reserve has a permanent water supply that attracts various and numberous animal species, that include the big cats, herbivores and reptiles such as crocodiles. It is relatively easier to spot Leopard in Samburu in comparison with the other Kenyan parks and reserve.
Getting to Samburu Game Reserve
By Road: It takes about 5 hours of driving to get to Samburu Reserve from Nairobi. The road is all weather bitumen-paved till Isiolo town leaving the rest of 75 kilometres on the gravel road.
By Air:
There are daily flights between Nairobi and Samburu and Maasai Mara. The reserve has an airstrip that is the Oryx Samburu Airstrip.

Elephants roam the hills on the scrubland while the hippos are ever present on the pools formed on the river tributaries.
