Udzungwa Mountains National Park - Tanzania

Udzungwa Mountains National Park is a recently established conservation area of about 2,000n sq km in the Iringa and Morogoro regions of south-central Tanzania.
It is one of the most pristine and unique parks in Tanzania, with exciting forested wilderness. It is one of thirty-four “World Biodiversity Hotspot” and one of 200 WWF Ecoregion of global critical importance.
Udzungwa mountains park is home to primates and is also known from the treasure of biodiversity of animals and plants found here. The park has high density of species with some plants and animals only found in these mountains and nowhere else in the world.
Getting to Udzungwa Mountains Park
By Air
Flights can be organized from Dar es Salaam Airport Charter flights from Dar-es-Salaam to nearby airstrip Mikumi National Park, Kilombero, Ifakara and Msolwa(Selous Game Reserve) airstrips.
By Road
The park is accessible all year around Dar es Salaam – Mbeya road via Morogoro to Mikumi town junction, through Ifakara road it is 60km to Mang’ula headquarter entrance gate from Mikumi town, from Mtandika near Ruaha Mbuyuni Dar-es-Salaam-Mbeya high way road the park is 10km to Msosa entrance gate, and 63km from Ilula town Dar-es-Salaam-Mbeya high way road to Udekwa entrance gate.
By Train
From Dar-es-Salaam there is TAZARA train stop at Mang’ula on route from Dar-es-Salaam to Mbeya
Attractions in Udzungwa Park
The major attraction in Udzungwa is biologically diverse plants, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds , butterfly, and insects of which some of species are found nowhere else in the world. Udzungwa Mountains National Park is the only known National Park in Tanzania with a culturally important natural cave and has survived destruction even before protection from the government due to traditional taboos and beliefs. The park is included as part of a visit to Tanzania's southern parks such as Mikumi and Ruaha.

Park facilities Rest house, Twiga hotel, Several campsites have been established inside the park some near to the Park headquarter and other along the trails, those wishing to camp should bring camping gears also there are some hotel, and guest house nearby the park, supplies are available at Mwaya, village near park headquarters.
