Safari Routing: Nairobi - Meru National park – Samburu - Nairobi
Day 1: Arrival Nairobi – Overnight
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International airport, you are met by Hallmark Travel Planners representative. You transfer to Sarova Panafric Hotel for overnight. Booked on Bed and breakfast meal-plan.
Day 2: Drive Nairobi to Meru National park
Breakfast at your hotel in Nairobi. After breakfast, begin the drive to Meru National park. You drive past the rich agricultural highlands of central Kenya on the way to the park. You will arrive in time for lunch a the lodge.
Kenya’s Meru National Park was made famous by the writings of Joy Adamson, most noted for her book Born Free, the true story of Elsa, the lioness, and her return into the wild.
Over 400 bird species have been recorded in Meru national park. Other animals seen at Meru park include: Baboon; Buffalo; Bushbuck; Duiker, Eland; Elephant, Gazelle, Genet, Gerenuk; Giraffe, Hartebeest, Hippo, Hyaena, Hyrax, Impala; Jackal, Kudu, Lion; Mongoose, Vervet Monkey, Oribi; Oryx, Steinbok; Suni, Warthog; Waterbuck and Zebra. You may see: wild dog, aardwolf; bushbaby, Caracal; Cheetah; Civet, Dik-dik; Leopard; Otter, Pangolin, Bush Pig, Porcupine, Ratel; Reedbuck, Black and white rhino; Serval; Shrew and Squirrel. Dinner and overnight at Elsa's Kopje Lodge or similar.
Day 3: Day in Meru National park
Early morning game drive before breakfast. After breakfast, relax at the lodge by the pool till lunch time. At 1630 hours, game drive begins running till sunset. Dinner and overnight at Elsa's Kopje lodge or similar.
Day 4: Drive Meru to Samburu Game Reserve
Breakfast at the lodge in Meru. After this, you begin drive towards Samburu Game reserve in the northern part of Kenya, just past Isiolo town. You arrive just in time for lunch.
The tranquil Uaso Nyiro River, flowing through Shaba and Samburu, attract a wide number of rare wildlife and provides a natural habitat for crocodile. Long necked gerenuk, Grevy´s zebra and reticulated giraffe are species not found in the less arid areas to the south. Elephant seek solace and contentment in the shallow waters of this wide sauntering river, fringed with acacia, down palms and tamarind, which together with Buffalo Springs, support a large variety of african mammals, cheetah and leopard being particularly well represented. Doves and guinea fowl abound and the giant MartialEagle perched on some high vantage point. The past volcanic intensity of the area is demonstrated by the formidable lava flow at the southern end of Shaba (its name comes from a cone of volcanic rock). At 1630, game drive till sunset in the reserve. Dinner and overnight at Samburu Simba Lodge or similar.
Day 5: Day in Samburu Game Reserve
All day game viewing in Samburu game reserve. Optional picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight at Samburu Simba Lodge or similar.
Day 6: Drive Samburu Game reserve to Nairobi – Depart
Early morning game drive followed by breakfast. After breakfast, check out and begin the drive back to Nairobi. You arrive in the early afternoon and drive to the Carnivore restaurant for lunch. Later transfer to the airport for your home-bound flight.
