3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Tracking Tour Summary
On this tour you will go tracking gorillas once. You enjoy the amazingly scenic landscape as you drive towards the Virunga Volcanoes. On the second day as you track the gorillas, The terrain is rough and at times muddy. Although the hike is physically demanding the beauty of the forest and surrounding scenery make the trekking worthwhile. Once the gorillas are located all fatigue is forgotten, as the experience is often described as being the most profound natural history experience in the world. Cameras and plenty of fast speed film is recommended.
Day to Day Gorilla Trekking Safari Program
Day 1: Arrival Kigali - Rwanda – Transfer Kinigi
Arrive Kigali International Airport, you are met and greeted by Hallmark Travel Planners representative. Then a two-hour drive to Kinigi via Hengeri. The road to Ruhengeri is sealed and offers stunning scenery of the hills and valleys of this green and lush country. From Ruhengeri 20 minute drive to Kinigi at the base of Sabinyo Mountain, with excellent views of the rest of the Virunga Volcanoes. You arrive Kinigi in time for lunch. Afternoon relaxation at the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Nest lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking Day – Evening - Drive back to Kigali
Today, you trek after the gorillas. After breakfast take a short drive to Park Headquarters where you will meet up with excellent local guides and trackers, who will give a talk on the etiquette of gorilla trekking. Thereafter, hike into the forest where the gorillas were seen the night before and track from that point.
In Rwanda, there are 5 habituated gorilla groups that can be viewing by tourists. Each group can be visited by a maximum of 8 people per day and the visit lasts only 1 hour.
The trekking can take from 1 to 6 hours and climb to altitudes in excess of 7,500 feet. The terrain is rough and at times muddy. Although the hike is physically demanding the beauty of the forest and surrounding scenery make the trekking worthwhile. Once the gorillas are located all fatigue is forgotten, as the experience is often described as being the most profound natural history experience in the world. Cameras and plenty of fast speed film is recommended. It is important to take plenty of water. Later, enjoy lunch at Muhabura Hotel before embarking on your return two hour drive to Kigali for overnight at Umubano Novotel. You are booked on Bed and breakfast mealplan.
Day 3: Depart Rwanda for home
Breakfast at the Hotel. Use of room until 10.00hrs only. Transfer to the airport for departure flight.
