Tanzania – East Africa’s Wildlife Safari Destination of Choice

tanzania

Tanzania is a land of large things – It is a land of superlatives. Sample this.  It is the largest country in East Africa.  Tanzania has the largest share of the largest lake in Africa (Lake Victoria) and the deepest lake in Africa (Lake Tanganyika). In terms of social and political stability, it is arguably the leader within East Africa.

That is not all. Tanzania  is also home to Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest Mountain, which attracts thousands of visitors each year,  climbing  its lofty heights to test their courage and endurance.

In  terms of wildlife safaris, Tanzania is the ultimate  African safari destination of choice.  It has so much to offer to safari seekers. From annual migration of millions of antelopes and wildebeest , to game viewing in the vast extinct volcano of the Ngorongoro Crater, to historic and atmospheric  Stone Town in Zanzibar, Tanzania  remains a  treasure trove of travel  experiences for the intrepid  African  traveler.

Southern Tanzania Safaris

Tanzania protects much of its wildlife and natural resources.  For example, almost a one-fourth  of Tanzania,  is made up of protected  reserves and  national parks.  The largest game Reserve in Africa , Selous Game Reserve, is found  in the southern part of this  country.  Selous  is 4 times the size of the better-known  Serengeti in northern Tanzania.

Selous  Reserve is simply  vast, and  has the largest concentration of Elephants, not only in Africa, but in the entire globe.   Its covers  55,000 square kilometers  and is a World Heritage Site,  boasting some of the most exclusive and pioneering boating safaris that  African safari lovers can enjoy.

Northern Tanzania Safaris

Safaris in Tanzania’s northern wildlife parks begin  from  Arusha.  For a slow road northern circuit safari,  your first stop is likely to be Lake Manyara National park, or Tarangire National Park. Before you venture on to Ngorongoro and further on to Serengeti.

Lake Manyara is a relatively small park,  renowned for the astounding spectacle of  its tree-climbing lions and the estimated one  million pink flamingoes which give the shallow soda lake a vast , magnificent pink blush.  The bird species count  in Lake Manyara  has been estimated at slightly over  400.

Tarangire National Park is an hour from Arusha. This park is one of Tanzania safari jewels and is well worth including in Tanzania. The large elephant herds that wander in and out of  Tarangire park throughout the year are to be seen to be believed. This is not, however, the only reason to this park,  with both lesser and great Kudu to be seen, plenty of lion, leopard and cheetah, as well as a variety of antelopes.

From Lake Manyara, or Tarangire, your next stop is likely to be  the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO- protected world heritage site,  where viewing all of the Big Five on a single day is a real possibility. This area is not only home to a marvelous variety of wildlife, where sightings of rhino and large lion prides are quite likely, but they share this protected area with the legendary Masai  people – a proud  African tribe, nay, THE proud, authentic African tribe.

Moving on –  Serengeti National park is undoubtedly the world’s most famous national park, and it is  here where the great, awe-inspiring annual migration of the wildebeest and antelopes  between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara  takes place  between August and October.  When talking about wildlife safaris, Serengeti  is  one of the most spectacular sights in the entire African continent.

Beach Tour in Zanzibar

Winding up your African tour, you could add the little spice island of Zanzibar, located  off the Tanzania mainland, is a snorkeling and  scuba diving  paradise.  Besides being an ideal beach holiday destination, Zanzibar is filled  with cultural and historical intrigues in the picturesque little alleys of its old town, commonly known as the Stone Town of Zanzibar.   A combined Tanzania wildlife safari and Zanzibar beach extension would not be an opportunity to miss, just like that.

If, we were  to list any highlights of your mid-range affordable Tanzanian Tours,  we would not leave out the following items:
