God first made Mauritius and from it, He created paradise; Words said by one of the world’s, greatest writers, Mark Twain.

His testaments were justified having drunk the beauty of Mauritius in its sheer aesthetic opulence.  May be it was the interesting landscapes comprising of thickly wooded mountain peaks towering above the sugar cane plains or the extinct volcanoes scattered around the island. Or may be it was the sounds and colours, the texture or even the people of Mauritius.

Whatever his reasons, this island is in a league of its own as far as beaches and holidays are concerned.  Mauritius boasts some of the words idyllic beaches with crystal clear waters and soft white sands.

Mauritius is striking because it once was a volcano.  Extinct for some 100,000 years, you have peaks and rock strutting right down into the sea and the icing on the cake is a coral reef surrounding the islands.

The north coast offers, among others, Pointe aux piments which is famous for it scenery, Trou aux Biches, Mont choisy, Grand Baie, while pereybere is noted for its excellent bathing.  Trou-aux-Biches is particularly suitable for children since the water is not deep there.  It is also a nice place to go snorkeling, especially for beginners because you can reach the lovely coral-reefs and a variety of exotic fishes easily after only 50-100m swim.

Along the east coast , Roches Noires, Belle Mare, Palmar and Trou d’Eau Dounce from an almost un broken ribbon of powdery , white sand which seamlessly flow in to the gently  waters inside  the coral reef.

In the south east, Blue Bay offers deep, clean bathing and on the stunning south west coast, around Le Morne, the wide lagoon leads on to Tamarin Bay, which is used by surfers and give way to the gentle, shallow waters of flic – en- flac.   Situated on the west coast

The outstandingly –beautiful tropical island of Mauritius fulfills every visitor’s dream- dazzling blue ocean, white sand beaches  flanked by towering mountains that provide a stunning contrast and backdrop, lush sugar cane plantations and  swaying palms, all surrounded by one of the largest unbroken coral  reefs in the world, home to more than a thousand species of  fish.

Lying amidst the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, some 1800 kilometers of the East coast of Africa, Mauritius was first reached by Arab sailors over 1,000 years ago.
