Ghana, a relatively small country situated on the west coast of Africa, is one of the best places in the world to visit. In 1957, Ghana became the first country in colonial Africa to gain political independence.

Ghana has a rich natural and cultural heritage. Open plains stretch from the coast inland, widening in the east. The Southern and western parts are covered by dense rain forests – with large numbers of birds and butterflies. The country’s national parks are not very big but hold considerable interesting species of animals like antelope, monkeys, lions and even elephants. The coastline is ideal for beach vacation and water sports.

Ghana’s rich history of interaction with other parts of the world - especially with regard to the Slave trade - is evident to see in the forts and castles on the country’s coast. Some of these include the Cape Coast Castles and Fort Elmina. These are recognized by UNESCO as world Heritage Monuments. Culture of Ghana is very rich with varied colourful traditions and rituals performed in different regions of the country. These ceremonies are normally full of pomp and pageantry with chiefs and queen mothers adorned in colourful regalia.
