Route in Kenya: Nairobi-Meru National Park - Nairobi
Route in Tanzania: Dar es Salaam - Selous - Dar es Salaam.
Day 1: Arrival Nairobi
On arrival into Nairobi at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met by Hallmark Travel Planners representative and transfer to The Fairmont Norfok Hotel.
Day 2: Flight from Nairobi to Meru National park
Pick up from your hotel after breakfast and transfer to Wilson Airport for the flight to Meru National park. The flight departs at 0915 hours to arrive Meru airstrip at 1035 hours. On arrival, you are met by Hallmark Travel Planners guide. With a brief game run, you drive to the lodge to check in. Lunch at the lodge. Afternoon relax at the lodge till late afternoon, 1630 hours, time for game drive till sunset.
Kenya’s Meru National Park was made famous by the writings of Joy Adamson, most noted for her book Born Free, the true story of Elsa, the lioness, and her return into the wild. The park lies in the north-eastern lowlands below the Nyambeni hills. Meru forms part of a larger wilderness area along the Tana River, including Bisanadi and Mwingi National Reserves, Kora national park and Rahole national reserve. Dinner at Elsa's Kopje Lodge.
Day 3: Day in Meru National park
Early morning game drive from 0630hours till 0830 hours. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Further game drive till lunch time. After lunch, afternoon is free till 1630 hours when you go on a game drive till sundown. Dinner and overnight at Elsa's Kopje Lodge.
Day 4: Flight from Meru National park to Nairobi. Connect Flight to Dar es salaam
Early morning game drive. Breakfast. After breakfast, check out of the lodge and transfer to the airstrip. Fly back to Nairobi. Lunch at a hotel in Nairobi. Transfer to the Jomo Kenyatta Airport for flight to Dar es Salaam. Arrival DIA – pick up and transfer to your hotel for overnight - Coral Hotel.
Day 5: Dar es Salaam to Selous Game Reserve
Pick up from Dar es Salaam city center and transfer to Dar es Salaam Airport for departure on a scheduled flight to Selous Game Reserve. On arrival, you will be met by The Retreat Selous’s representative and transferred to the The Retreat Selous for lunch. This evening, you will an opportunity to participate in a game drive in the Selous. Dinner and overnight at The Retreat Selous
Day 6 and 7: Selous Game Reserve
Enjoy a full day game viewing in the reserve. Participate in some classic – style game drives - exploring the bush in open 4 x 4 vehicles. Waterbuck, southern reed buck and bushbuck are common in the Selous. Rare sable antelope, lion and greater kudu also frequent in this area. Meals and overnight at The Retreat Selous.
Day 8: Selous Game Reserve
After breakfast accompany an armed ranger on a waking safari in the reserve. The sights and sounds of a walking safari is a special treat that will long live in your memory. The thrill of creeping up to animals to “shoot” them with your camera is a great experience. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari where you will explore the different channels and lakes of the Rufiji River System, surrounded by hippos and crocodiles. A large variety of heroes, storks, ducks, stilts, and other water birds may be seen. And you also see land mammals, such as giraffe and elephants. Meals and overnight at The Retreat Selous.
Day 9: Selous Game Reserve – Dar es Salaam
Enjoy a morning game drive in the Selous Game Reserve. Early lunch at the camp, followed by transfer to the airstrip for departure on a scheduled flight to Dar es Salaam. On arrival at Dar es Salaam Airport. Connect flight to Nairobi from where you can connect homebound flight.
