Routing: Entebbe - Kibale Forest - Queen Elizabeth Park - Bwindi Forest - Lake Mburo - Entebbe.
Day 1: Arrival EntebbeOn arrival at Entebbe Airport, you are met by Hallmark Travel Planners representative and transfer to Lake Victoria Hotel. Visit the Entebbe Botanical Gardens if time allows.
Day 2: Drive Entebbe – Kibale tropical Rain Forest.
Breakfast at the Hotel. Morning commence a full day drive of approximately 7 hours to Kibale Forest area. Lunch will be a picnic.
After leaving the Lake Victoria Basin pass through beautiful agricultural countryside where every type of fruit and vegetable imaginable is grown. Upon reaching Kyanjojo, in the lower foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains (Mountains of the Moon), drive through beautiful tea plantations and into Kibale tropical rain forest. Arrive at the beautiful Ndali Lodge, situated on a high saddle between two crater lakes. Dinner and overnight at Ndali Lodge.
Day 3: Drive Kibale Tropical Rain Forest – Queen Elizabeth Park
Breakfast at Ndali Lodge. This morning, we take forest walk to see the rain forest and view birds and primates, including chimpanzees. Walking is not difficult, paths have been made in the forest and all walks are with excellent local guides. Traditional lunch will be served in a home in Bigodi.
Afternoon commence a 4½ hour drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive passes through Fort Portal and then south along the eastern length of The Rwenzori Mountains, with the hope of viewing the glaciated peaks. We gently descend into The Great African Rift Valley and Queen Elizabeth National Park, to Jacana Lodge, situated on a peninsula overlooking Lake Edward and Kasinga Channel, offering beautiful views of the park with the Rwenzori Mountains in the background. Dinner and overnight at Jacana Lodge.
Day 4: Day in Queen Elizabeth national park
Game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park including a launch trip of about 2 hours on the Kasinga Channel to view some of the largest concentration of Hippo in the world (reported to be about 30,000) and other game with excellent birding.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of best birding parks in Africa, with over 560 recorded species and a record of 296 bird species seen in one 24 hour period. Including Maramagambo Forest walk, visiting bat caves where one can see thousands of bats and possibly pythons and Monitor Lizards catching bats. All meals and overnight at Jacana Lodge.
Day 5: Drive Queen Elizabeth - Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Breakfast at the Lodge. In the morning, drive to the Ishasha region of Queen Elizabeth National Park for a game drive, in search of tree climbing lion and other game. Lunch will be a picnic.
Afternoon drive to Bwindi Impenetrable, a World Heritage Sight, passing through the scenic area known as The Switzerland of East Africa. The driving today is about 5½ hours. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp
Day 6: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Gorilla Tracking)
After breakfast, take a short drive to Park Headquarters and meet with excellent local guides and trackers who will give a talk on the etiquette of gorilla trekking. We then hike into the forest where the gorillas were seen the night before and track from that point.
The trekking can take up to 6 hours and climb to altitudes in excess of 7,500 feet. The terrain is rough and at times muddy. Although the hike is physically demanding the beauty of the forest and surrounding scenery make the trekking worthwhile. Once the gorillas are located all fatigue is forgotten, as the experience is often described as being the most profound natural history experience in the world. Picnic lunches are provided and it is important to take plenty of water. Cameras and plenty of fast speed film is recommended. It can rain at a few minutes notice; hence waterproof clothing is a good essential including zip lock bags for cameras and film. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp.
Day 7: Drive Bwindi Imprenetrable Forest – Mbarara – Lake Mburo
After breakfast, drive to Lake Mburo National Park, passing through The Switzerland of East Africa area and eventually into Ankole Cattle country around Mbarara. The cattle are incredible, with horns larger than one can imagine. After Mbarara, continue to Lake Mburo National Park where you enjoy a game drive. Lunch at White Horse Inn in Kabale. Dinner and overnight at Mihingo Lodge.
Day 8: Lake Mburo – Entebbe – Depart
Breakfast at the Lodge with a game drive in the Park. Thereafter, embark on the five hour drive to Entebbe, with lunch en route. Dependent on the departure flight timings, lunch will be at either Mihingo Lodge or Lake Victoria Hotel. Transfer to Entebbe Airport for departure flight.
Remarks
Persons under 15 years of age, are not allowed to take part in gorilla tracking tours.
