Under threat of extinction and a testament to the resilience of wild creatures in wild places, the African rhino is an enduring symbol of the beautiful strangeness of the natural world. If you see this member of the Big Five in the wilds of Africa, you’ve hit the safari jackpot. Keep reading and we’ll show you how to make it happen.

This is a 12 day Rhino safari covering some of the best known areas where the African Rhino ( Black Rhino and White Rhino) can be found.   Transportation between the parks is by road using a customized 4xz4 safari van in Kenya and 4×4 safari jeep in Tanzania. The Kenya-Tanzania Rhino safari adventure  visits Ol Pejeta Conservancy (black and white rhino), Lake Nakuru park (White Rhino), Masai Mara National Reserve (Black Rhinos), Serengeti and  Ngorongoro (black rhinos)  and Lake Manyara National park.  Accommodation is in affordable mid-range tented camps, located in places where adventure activities like hiking, nature walks, night game drives and village visits are permitted and possible.

Road Transfer to Nairobi – Depart Breakfast

Day 1: Arrival Nairobi – Overnight

Arrive Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. You are met by Hallmark Travel Planners representative and transfer to the Tamarind Tree Hotel for your overnight stay. If your flights allow, you will be picked up for dinner and the Carnivore Restaurant. Overnight:  Tamarind Hotel, Nairobi.

Day 2: Drive from Nairobi to Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Morning breakfast Then be driven to Olpejata. Previously known as Sweetwaters, Ol Pejeta is a privately-owned 90,000 acre wildlife conservancy. The conservancy sits on the equator, high on a plateau, between the foothills of the Aberdares range and Mount Kenya. It hosts a wide variety of animals, including the ‘big five’, plus many bird species. On a clear day, and normally in the morning, you may have panoramic views of Mt Kenya and her snow-capped peaks. The conservancy has a variety of habitats including thick scrub, marshlands, rivers and open plains. Ol Pejeta is committed to conservation and has a number of projects to protect endangered species, including white and black rhino. They also have a Jane Goodall chimpanzee sanctuary which is home to primates who have been rescued from abusive or captive situations. There are a number of unique experiences which you can add to a safari including a night game drive and lion tracking (booked locally).

Day 3: Drive Ol Pejeta to Lake Nakuru

After breakfast drive to the floor of the Rift Valley. Start safari game drive as you drive towards the lodge. Arrive for lunch -. After which, safari safari game drive in the park. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approx 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. Also, many species of game can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild’s giraffe, black and white rhino, water buck, reed buck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon and many species of plains game. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4: Road Transfer to Masa Mara Game Reserve

Buffet breakfast at  the lodge. Depart for Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya’s finest and best known game reserve. 1300 hrs. Lunch at Ilkeliani Camp. Afternoon game viewing drive. The greatest attraction in the Mara is watching the animals in their natural element; a lion’s roar, a cheetah making a kill, and the big elephant herds are all very fascinating events. This is the traditional land of the Masai people, nomadic herders who choose a traditional lifestyle and who are permitted to graze their cattle in the area.  A proud and largely aloof tribe who have held on to their customs and traditions for hundreds of years.

The park’s habitats include the forests along the banks of the Mara and Talek Rivers, acacia forests and open savannah. Dinner and overnight at Ilkeliani Camp.

Day 5: Day in Maasai Mara- Game Drives

The famous Mara is renowned for its great herds of plain’s game including the Black Maned Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. It also has numerous elephants and virtually every type of wildlife available in Kenya.

You will have extended game drives during the day and will also be able to enjoy the rich, tree studded grassland and rolling hills.  All meals and overnight at Ilkeliani Camp.

Day 6: Road Transfer Masai Mara to Serengeti, Tanzania

Today you take an early breakfast and leave with PACKED LUNCH to cross the border into Tanzania. You arrive the Sirari border town by around 1100 hours. After customs and immigration procedure, our counterparts from the Tanzania partner office meet you for the drive into Serengeti Game Reserve.

With game drive en route, you will arrive Serengeti at around 1500 hours. Rest of the afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight at your lodge,

Day 7: Road Transfer Northern Serengeti to Central Serengeti

Early morning game drive in northern Serengeti. After breakfast, depart for central Serengeti, enjoying a game drive on your way. You expect to arrive in time for lunch.

Serengeti National Park is one of the best-known wildlife sanctuaries in the world, and was recently declared as one of the seven natural wonders of Africa. It covers an area of about 14763sq kms, with various vegetation, grassy plains, savanna acacia lands, wooden hills and mountains which are the backdrops for an extraordinary concentration of animals which reaches its peak during the wildebeest migration.

It is said to be around 2 million of wildebeests in Serengeti that migrate every year from Massai Mara plains. Serengeti is among of the world’s remaining natural wildlife refuges. The name comes from the Maasai ‘Siringet’, meaning endless plains and is equal in size to Northern Ireland. The Park contains an estimated three million large animals, most of which take part in seasonal migration which makes it one of natures’ wonders. Dinner and overnight at Ikoma Wild Camp.

Day 8:  Safaris and Photography in Central Serengeti

Full day game viewing with optional of packed lunch or return to the lodge for Lunch and proceed with afternoon game drive in Endless of Serengeti national Park till sunset. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Ikoma Wild  Camp.

Day 9: Road Transfer Serengeti to Ngorongoro Area

After breakfast, depart for another morning game drive in Serengeti National Park. With Lunch boxes proceed driving to Ngorongoro Conservation area via Olduvai Gorge, site of Louis and Mary Leakey’s renowned archaeological discoveries. Their findings include some of the man’s earliest known ancestral remains.  Dinner and overnight at Rhino Lodge.

Day 10: Full Day Ngorongoro Crater Tour – Evening to Karatu

Today will descend 2000 feet (over 600 meters) to the floor of the crater for a full day crater tour.  The Ngorongoro Crater and surrounding highlands together form one of Africa’s most beautiful regions. Volcanic craters form stunning backdrops to some of the most fertile and richest grazing grounds in Africa. The most famous such crater is without question Ngorongoro, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and home to the highest density of big game in Africa. Ngorongoro is justifiably one of the continent’s most famous safari destinations.    After the tour, drive to Karatu area.  Dinner and overnight at Farm of Dreams Lodge.

Day 11: Lake Manyara Safaris

After breakfast and proceed to Lake Manyara national park for a full afternoon game drives with packed lunch.

Lake Manyara is a shallow, alkaline lake that is part of the Rift Valley wall; the lake is at the base of this dramatic western escarpment giving it a beautiful and serene setting. In addition to this peaceful setting, Lake Manyara’s main attractions are its rich bird life, tree climbing lions and its hippos, which you can see at a closer range than many other places. Lake Manyara also hosts thousands of flamingos at certain times of the year and has diverse vegetation ranging from savannah, to marshes and acacia woodland, enabling a variety of wildlife habitats including butterflies. Dinner and overnight stay at Farm Of Dreams Lodge.

Day 12: Drive to Nairobi – Depart

After breakfast at the lodge depart for Arusha. Enjoy a hot lunch at a restaurant, then proceed to Namanga border Drop off at 1500hrs.    After immigration and customs procedures at the border, you will proceed to Nairobi and connect your flight out of Africa.
